Solar Power Solutions for Wireless Sensor Networks

Using Banner's stand-alone solar power supply and industrial wireless I/O devices, designed for use where wired power is not available, will increase the range and efficiency of your wireless sensor network.

The FlexPower Solar Supply provides power for continuous wireless sensing and monitoring applications in a compact, plug-and-play power solution.

Use the FlexPower Solar Supply to:

  • Extend the range of a wireless network by powering Banner's DX80 1 Watt Data Radio
  • Continuously monitor a 4-20 mA sensor with the DX80 Solar Node
  • Power the FlexPower Solar DX80 Gateway with Modbus RTU serial communication output

FlexPower Solar DX80 Node

Nodes are slave devices within Banner's wireless sensor networks with sensors and other devices connected to the Node's inputs or outputs. The Node collects the sensor data and wirelessly transmits it to the Gateway. The FlexPower Solar Node is designed to be powered using the Solar Supply and offers continuous power for 4-20 mA sensors.

FlexPower Solar DX80 Gateway

A SureCross Gateway is the wireless network master device used to control network timing, schedule communication traffic, and hold the configuration for the entire I/O sensor network. Similar to how a gateway device on a wired network acts as a portal between networks, the SureCross Gateway acts as the portal between the wireless network and the central control process. Every wireless I/O sensor network requires one Gateway device.

Though optimized to be powered from the Solar Supply, the FlexPower Solar DX80 Gateway may also be powered from 10-30V dc or the DX81P6 Battery Supply Pack.

FlexPower Serial DX80 Data Radio

Data radios are used to extend a communication network. Serial radios connect a Modbus control system to one or more DX80 Gateway devices acting as Modbus slaves. Data streams appearing on the serial input of one radio within the network are reproduced on the serial outputs of all other radios in the same wireless network.

Serial Data Radio
Data radios are wireless industrial communication devices used to extend the range of a Modbus or other serial communication network.
