To detect a broken web in the dryer section of a paper-making machine
As a web of newly made paper travels at more than 3,000 feet per minute through a series of rotating cylinders, an L-GAGE LT3 sensor in diffuse mode looks for breaks in the web.
Because the ambient temperature near the dryer drums is too high for electronic sensors to function, the LT3, with its high speed and long operating range, is the perfect choice. It can reliably sense a break from a distance of 2.5 meters, where the temperature is cooler.
One discrete output may be programmed to send a stop signal to the machine, while the other signals an alarm.
