Gear Tooth Sensing with a Slot Sensor

To sense the individual teeth of timing gear

Description

An SL30 fixed-width opposed mode sensor is positioned so the gear rotates in the center of the slot. As the gear wheel rotates, the output of the SL30 switches as each gear tooth is detected. The output connects to a PLC that counts the output pulses to determine the position of an object on the conveyor.

SL Series slot sensors are an economical way to reliably produce pulses from timing gears used in automated production machinery.
