In the food and beverage industry, frozen dinners go through many processes during secondary packaging before being shrink wrapped in large boxes for shipment. As frozen dinners come down the line, they have to be placed in a bucket one at a time to ensure that each dinner is placed in the carton magazine correctly. An accurate sensor solution is needed to detect the leading edge to ensure the frozen dinners are placed in the bucket at the correct time to properly enter a carton magazine.
Banner’s LX Series is an economical solution for leading edge detection of flat objects, such as the frozen dinner containers. With a web of modulated light, the LX Series Part-Sensing Light Screen can detect any item that passes through the light screen for reliable detection of small objects. By detecting the leading edge, the LX Series sensor triggers the conveyor to speed up or slow down in order for the frozen dinner to be placed in a carton magazine.
The LX Series’ fast response of 0.8 to 3.2 ms helps ensure the conveyor is at the correct speed for placing a dinner in the bucket. With easy-to-see bright LEDS on the emitter and receiver, data monitoring and processing are simple.
The LX Series also has a simple wiring configuration because the emitter and receiver do not require a synchronization wire. The LX Series’ bipolar design offers NPN and PNP solid-state outputs with a rugged, self-contained housing rated to IEC IP65.
