Universal Voltage (AC/DC)
The QS18 Universal Voltage Sensor operates on ac or dc voltage and has several sensing models available, making it an ideal sensor for many manufacturing environments.
WORLD-BEAM QS18 Universal Voltage sensors are mounted along a conveyor to detect the presence and position of passing paletts. These sensors can be connected to either AC or DC power, allowing them to operate in large conveyor applications already using AC power without requiring a separate power supply. In addition to the universal voltage, this sensor also has a popular 18 mm barrel shape, multiple mounting options, and a rugged IP67 housing to withstand harsh environments. Having multiple power and mounting options in a single sensor allow for a quick and easy retrofit on the line.
As syringes pass on a conveyor, a WORLD-BEAM QS18 with background suppression detects the individual barrels, passing the information to a counting device.
With a narrow beam that projects a small bright spot, the QS18LLP laser, polarized, retro-reflective sensors provide precise position control when triggering various devices. In this application, the QS18LLP is able to correctly detect the glossy carton as it travels down the conveyor—without proxing—and trigger the ink jet printer to print the date/lot code on the carton. The second sensor triggers the P4 OMNI to inspect the date/lot code and verify it is legible and correct.
WORLD-BEAM QS18 Universal Voltage sensors mounted along an airline conveyor detect the presence and position of passing luggage. QS18 Universal Voltage sensors can be connected to either AC or DC power, allowing them to operate in large conveyor applications already using AC power without requiring a separate power supply. The robust, compact housing and multiple mounting options add to the versatility of WORLD-BEAM QS18 Universal Voltage sensors.
WORLD-BEAM QS18 Adjustable-Field Sensors with Background Suppression feature enhanced immunity to fluorescent lights, enabling them to reliably detect the edges of the glass panels despite looking up at the factory lights. The difficulty of varying background conditions is solved by using background suppression. The cutoff distance is set by the user with a simple multi-turn screw adjustment. The sensor will ignore objects beyond the set cutoff distance.
Banner’s WORLD-BEAM QS18LP laser sensor accurately inspects every carton that passes on the conveyor, ensuring the robot is triggered to load cartons into the package. With a visible laser sensing beam, the QS18LP provides precise position control, which is ideal to ensure accurate counting of cartons at a close range. The rugged QS18LP is also ideal for confined spaces and is easily set up along a conveyor for accurate sensing. With highly bright LEDs, operating status is visible from 360⁰.
In the event of packages or totes coming around the corner of a conveyor getting caught, a WORLD-BEAM QS18 Universal Voltage sensor positioned at a bend will communicate to an alarm or PLC that an object has become lodged in front of it, alerting employees to the presence of a jam.
Banner provides sensing and industrial LED lighting solutions to help minimize carton and product damage inside a container. Banner’s QS18FF with background suppression has a fixed range up to 100 mm with an 850 microsecond response time, allowing for easy detection of the packages/cargo and ensuring the extendable conveyor does not crush cartons. Banner’s WLB32 is a cost-effective, LED lighting solution available in both AC and DC versions with a high lumen output that ensures proper illumin
A leading manufacturer of labeling equipment offers high-speed shrink sleeve label applicators designed to process 800 bottles per minute. To maximize the machine’s performance potential, the company wanted to install sensors capable of consistent detection and output for high-speed bottling.
In a process that uses hazardous chemicals, a fiber optic probe immediately senses liquid that touches the end of the probe. A WORLD-BEAM QS18 sensor responds by triggering a warning alarm.
A recent industry switch from polypropene (PP) to polyethylene terephthalate (PETE) bottles prompted a leading US mail-order facility to re-evaluate their fulfillment process. With over 2,000 red LED sensors to be replaced, the facility turned to Banner for a solution.

Three QS18 opposed mode sensors above the roller conveyor detect any passing object, triggering the horizontal QS18 sensor. Letters pass below the horizontal QS18 undetected and are diverted to the letter conveyor. Parcels are detected and continue forward.
WLS28 Work Light Strips: Bright, long-lasting LED light strips provide optimal visibility inside the cartoner for operator access and easily fit on the machine without obscuring access Safety Hinge Switches: Stainless steel, load-bearing safety hinge switches support the cartoner’s machine door and will shut down the machine if the doors are opened, and minimize the risk of intentional defeat
A Henshaw customer manufactures drivetrain and powertrain systems for the automotive industry. The company had experienced productivity losses due to errors in the assembly of transmission valve bodies. Henshaw was tasked with developing a system that would reduce errors and improve the assembly process.
A WORLD-BEAM QS18LD diffuse-mode laser sensor can be used to accurately inspect each package as it passes on a conveyor. The sensor emits a visible Class 1 laser sensing beam, focused on the piece of tape used to seal the package. When the top of the box is closed and sealed correctly, the tape will return the sensing beam back to the receiver.
Banner sensors are positioned above a conveyor inspecting each passing box for missing chocolates. When a passing box breaks the trigger beam created by a pair of Q12 opposed-mode sensors, an array of QS18AF sensors mounted above the box inspect each location for missing chocolates. When a box containing the wrong amount of chocolates is detected, an output signal is relayed to a main controller at the packaging line warning of the failed condition.
The QS18LD laser diffuse sensor scans across the top of the package to see if any flaps are open. The laser diffuse sensor provides accurate detection to verify whether the frozen packages are sealed properly.
The WORLD-BEAM QS18 adjustable field background suppression sensor is an excellent choice for this part-in-place application, requiring a three-inch scanning distance. With the combination of high-gain characteristics, sharp adjustable cutoff and a forgiving visible red light beam this sensor ensures longevity in this harsh environment.
In this illustration, precision machined bolts have just come out of the feeder bowl and are moving down the feeder bowl rail, conveying to the next automated step. As they move down the rail, a WORLD-BEAM QS18 detects the bolt and sends a triggering signal to an inspection sensor, the iVu Image Sensor. The iVu is configured to detect a flaw in the flange, irregular shape of the bolt head, or other flaws that might be present.
