Status Indication on a Forklift
Challenge: Minimal Visibility of Forklifts
Forklifts are frequently used in distribution centers to move products to the loading dock area for transport. At times, it can be difficult for forklift drivers to see oncoming traffic, including workers, when they cross intersections and move throughout the building. Likewise, forklifts can be hard to see for others working in the facility. The forklifts currently being used in this distribution center did not have beacons or lights installed on them, which contributed to their lack of visibility. The absence of visual indication made it difficult for other workers to see when forklifts were moving throughout this busy facility. The facility manager needed to keep operators safe and workflow smooth in this distribution center and was tasked with finding a way to improve the work environment. A consultation with a Banner representative helped him determine the best course of action to achieve this goal.
Solution: K100 Basic Beacon Provides Clear Indication
A yellow K100 Basic Beacon was installed on top of all the forklifts used in this distribution center to easily communicate their location to other workers. The bright yellow color stood out in the distribution center, which made it easy to see from a distance. The forklift driver engaged a flashing animation to ensure it attracted the attention of workers when it was moving products through the distribution center. By adding clear indication to the top of the forklift, this simple solution created a safe work environment and increased worker productivity. Workers felt more comfortable moving about the building, knowing that they could easily identify the flashing light of the K100 Basic Beacon and clearly see the forklift when approaching them.
