Operator Guidance on a Panel Saw
Challenge
A machine builder serving the wood processing industry sought a user-friendly solution to help operators ensure wood panel alignment. Since these machines can serve for smaller production batches, effective communication with operators is essential to minimize errors. Improved operator visibility would boost productivity and provide quality assurance.
Solution
The manufacturer installed two WLF12 flexible strip lights on the cutting line; one for programmable indication and communication, and the other for bright illumination. Despite the tight space, both had peel-and-stick adhesive backing that made installation quick and simple. The WLF12 Pro displayed two colors, green and yellow, to serve as a visual guide for operators during the cutting process. The length of the green light over the yellow background was programmed to correspond to the length of each wood panel based on an input signal, ensuring accurate placement, and eliminating scrap. The white WLF12 was used to help operators see better when sliding the panels into the saw.
