Controlling a Room Light Remotely
A manufacturer of high-tech fiberglass has a storage room upstairs in a low traffic area that didn’t need to have lights on all the time. Because it was unnecessary to illuminate this area throughout the day, the customer wanted to have the lights turn on only when someone was walking up the stairs and then turn off automatically.
The customer required a solution that could sense a person walking up the stairs and turned the lights on for a specified period of time. It was also too expensive to re-wire the entire lighting system going up the stairs into the storage room.
Solution
A Q45 Emitter/Receiver detects when someone steps on the first step and sends a discrete signal to the Gateway to turn the light on. The light switch has a built-in timer that turns the light off after 20 minutes.
