Automating Data Collection for On-Site Water Treatment

Challenge: Data Collection was Isolated and Had to be Reviewed Frequently
Maintenance personnel at a commercial printing company take continuous level readings throughout their on-site water treatment process to comply with state mandates. A dedicated maintenance person was needed to manually sample and document each individual level at regularly scheduled intervals. Although this data was collected, it was isolated from the plant-wide control system and had to be reviewed at the end of each shift.
Solution: A Banner Engineering SureCross Wireless Network Now Allows Data Reviews in Real Time
A SureCross™ Wireless Network was installed to collect 4–20 mA level readings throughout the water treatment process. A Node with analog inputs was installed at each water level measurement point and a single GatewayPro was mounted inside the maintenance shop.
The maintenance shop is in a separate building approximately 100 yards away from the water treatment area. The GatewayPro offers an EtherNet/IP interface that connects to the existing plant-wide control system. The level data is automatically sampled and can now be reviewed in real time.
Results: Automatic Data Collection and Increased Visibility Throughout the Water Treatment Process
