Web Position Monitoring Reduces Downtime and Scrap in Bubble Mailer Manufacturing
Challenge
Bubble mailer machines combine multiple webs of paper and plastic materials to create padded envelopes at high speeds. These webs must be precisely aligned when laminating the plastic bubble layer onto the outer paper or poly layer. If materials start to drift on the machine, the misalignment can cause the envelopes to be formed incorrectly. Not only does this create scrap, the machine will also be down while the webs are replaced or realigned.
Solution
To ensure the web is always in an acceptable position on the machine’s rollers, the EG24 High Precision Edge Sensor constantly monitors the position of the webs. If material begins to drift even the slightest bit, an operator can stop the machine and make adjustments before more serious alignment problems arise, minimizing downtime and wasted material.
