Width Mode Ensures Quality and Process Verification in Wire Coating
Challenge
When exiting a coating application, a wire strand requires uniform coverage because chemical accumulation in places or coating gaps on the wire can cause damage in later processes. Also, when different widths of wire are used in an application, the incorrect wire can be used, increasing the risk of quality issues in larger assemblies.
Solution
Using width mode, the EG24 High Precision Edge Sensor can ensure wire is the correct dimension by detecting any accumulation or indicating a gap in the coating. The 2 kHz measurement rate accurately detects and measures the wire even when it’s moving quickly anywhere throughout the 24-millimeter-wide beam and 40-millimeter sensing range. Together, the technologies in the EG24 can confirm the quality of a final product by measuring dimensions of materials in process, ensuring uniform width with no crimps, breaks, or coating accumulation. They can also verify processes so the proper wire is being used at the right time to prevent misuse of parts.
