No processo de microssolda de chips, as placas eletrônicas são transportadas em um magazine vertical. Para aumentar o rendimento, os cartuchos são inspecionados para determinar se uma placa eletrônica está presente em cada slot. Visto que a placa eletrônica pode ter 0,1 mm de espessura, ela pode ser difícil de detectar. O sensor convergente VS1 detecta facilmente esse contorno fino, assim como matrizes de grade de esferas de plástico (Plastic Ball Grid Array, PBGA) não reflexivas.
