    Part Detection Image

    Challenge

In manufacturing processes, the orientation of parts is critical to ensure correct assembly and continuous operation. Parts facing the wrong direction could cause jams and costly work stoppages. A solution is needed that can inspect parts to ensure correct orientation.

    Solution

In the application shown, nuts exiting a vibratory feeder bowl are transported to the next step in the assembly process. It is essential that the correct side of the nut faces up so they can be used efficiently in the process.

Four sensor types are built into each iVu Series vision sensor: area, match, sort, and blemish. The device can be setup, managed, and monitored using an integrated or remote touchscreen or with a PC. Configured for a Match inspection, the iVu captures an image of a correctly oriented nut to use as the reference image. The iVu will then compare each nut to the reference image to determine if there is a match. If the sensor detects a part that does not match the reference, it will send a fail output to the line and the nut will be rejected.

iVu Series vision sensors are available in models with or without an integrated touchscreen. Users can configure, change, and monitor inspections on the device or away from the line using a remote touchscreen or PC. The intuitive operating environment and menu-drive tools make configuring inspection parameters easy. Even first-time users can quickly and conveniently apply and support inspections on or away from the factory floor.
