Improve Accuracy and Reliability of Tank Level Measurements

Upgrade to Accurate, Real-Time Tank Level Measurements

Basic level monitoring technologies, such as a level switch, have limited capabilities, only providing measurement signals for predetermined material levels. Their moving components also make them prone to failure. Technologies such as ultrasonic sensors provide better measurement resolution, but their signals can be negatively impacted by conditions such as condensation, dust, and swirling air. Also, ultrasonic sensors typically have a short sensing range, limiting their use to smaller tanks. Radar sensors from Banner provide continuous tank level measurements over a long distance, up to 25 meters, and resist even the harshest environments. Another benefit of radar technology is that it can measure through many common ambient environmental challenges while focusing on the target material you want to measure. 

Measure the Level of Both Liquid and Dry Materials with Radar Sensors

Selecting a radar sensor begins with understanding the type of material you are measuring. Liquids are an ideal target for radar sensor measurement, and Banner has many options to choose from that offer a variety of form factors, sensing ranges, beam patterns, and signal types. Dry, granular materials, such as plastic pellets used in injection molding, can also be reliably detected by Banner radar technology. 

Radar sensors also offer a unique benefit over other sensing technologies: when mounted externally on certain plastic tanks, they can sense through the tank wall and measure the level, keeping the sensor separate from the material altogether. Prevent Manual Tank Level Checks

When tanks do not have any measurement systems installed to provide a real-time view of tank levels, maintenance staff are often dispatched to manually check tanks, sometimes multiple times per day. Not only does this time-consuming job take staff away from more important tasks, it means material levels are not actively monitored, possibly leading to tanks running out of material before the next check. It can also introduce human error into the process as levels may be misread or recorded incorrectly, which may lead to more problems. Radar sensors can easily be added to most tanks and their data viewed in real time, helping businesses avoid these manual tank level checks.

Monitor Your Tank Level Both Locally and Remotely

If you already monitor tank levels with a remote monitoring system, chances are good that Banner radar sensors will be a simple retrofit. However, if you don’t have a monitoring system or you’re looking to upgrade, Banner can also help. Banner has developed an innovative way to view levels at a glance on the tank itself. When connected to a Banner radar sensor, a Banner LED strip light can visually convey fill levels, much like a bar graph. This solution, known as Pulse Pro, allows a compatible sensor and light to communicate with each other without the need for an additional control device. Q90R Series

To accurately measure dry good fill levels, the wide beam angle on the Q90R can sense the highest point, whether it is the peak of accumulating materials or the top edge of dry materials as they drain from a tank. The wide beam can also allow the Q90R to receive more reflected signals than a sensor with a narrow beam angle. Its high excess gain allows the Q90R to detect very fine, dry materials.

T30R Series

The T30R is a reliable sensor for detection of liquids in a wide range of tank level monitoring applications. A T30R mounted on a tall tank can use its narrow beam width and long sensing range to measure chemicals or other caustic agents that could damage an internally mounted sensor. Even if the tank wall is dusty or dirty, the T30R’s high-frequency microwaves can still pass through and measure the liquid inside.

K50R Series

The K50R is a robust, cost-efficient radar sensor for short-range, large-scale installations. Models with a narrow beam width have a five-meter range, making them ideal for tank level monitoring even when space is limited. Sensitive to a wide variety of materials and with high excess gain to deliver more robust measurement and level detection, the K50R is a highly-reliable alternative to ultrasonic sensors.
