level monitoring in a plastic tank

A T30R radar sensor mounted on the top outer surface of a tank. In this configuration, the sensor's signal is able to penetrate most plastic-based tanks to measure the level of contained liquids.

    Application

The liquid material inside a large plastic tank must be measured to maintain optimal levels.

    Challenge

Mounting a sensor inside a tank is often impractical, and it is not an ideal setup if direct contact with a liquid substance could damage or negatively affect the sensor.

    Solution

With the help of the SMBT30RTM mounting bracket, a T30R can be installed outside the tank, with its high-frequency radio wave signal penetrating through the plastic container wall down to the liquid’s surface.

    Key Benefits

Maintain the desired amounts of liquid

Monitor the amount of liquid in a plastic tank to make timely refills as necessary. Or ensure that the liquid substances (including water, fuel, cleaning fluids, septic waste, or even potentially hazardous chemicals) are flowing into and out of the tank at the correct rates to prevent overflow or insufficient quantity inside the tank. The Near Range T30R model (1515-C) features a short dead zone with reliable measurement capabilities. This makes it ideal for detecting targets at close range, including liquid surfaces in small tanks, in as little as 100 millimeters from the sensor face.

    Easy installation

Because the T30R uses directed radar rather than light, the sensor can be mounted outside of a plastic tank, with the radar signal passing through the tank’s walls. There’s no need to puncture or drill a hole in the tank. The SMBT30RTM mounting bracket for the T30R positions the sensor’s lens 3 mm from a tank’s top surface. For best results, the bracket should be mounted so that the sensor points directly downward, to be as perpendicular with the liquid’s surface as possible.

    Discrete or Pulse Pro detection

The T30R can set discrete thresholds to send an alert when the liquid inside a tank reaches a specific user-adjustable level. This measurement data (analog/IO-Link) can be applied to “pump in/pump out” logic to activate or deactivate pumps connected to the tank in an automated system. The sensor also can be configured to send continuous Pulse Pro data output for direct integration with Banner indicators such as tower lights and strip lights.

T30R Radar Sensor for Detecting the Widest Range of Objects

The T30R sensor is a longer-range alternative to ultrasonic sensors, and provides more reliable detection and position feedback in extreme outdoor conditions and other challenging environments. It features a shorter dead zone, better accuracy, and the ability to see a wider range of targets than traditional 24GHz radar sensors.
