Plastic Fiber Optic Assemblies

Plastic fiber optics usually have a large, monofilament core. Advances in LED technology have improved the performance and range of plastic fiber optic sensing systems to the point that they are nearly equivalent to glass fibers. Plastic fibers are a versatile, cost-effective choice for many fiber optic sensing applications.

Advantages:

  • Less expensive
  • Allow less signal attenuation
  • More flexible
  • Survive well under repeated flexing
  • Can be cut to length in the field
  • Can be routed into extremely tight areas
Step 1: Choose a Fiber Type

Fiber optics guide light from the amplifier to a sensing location, or from the sensing location back to the amplifier. Fibers are typically used becuase of space constraints, hostile environments, or lack of power at the sensing location.

Banner has the largest portfolio of fiber optic assemblies in the industry. We have over 1,000 different fibers to meet every space, environment, and sensing requirement.

Fiber Optics by Application

Array & Slot Fiber Optics
Array & Slot Fiber Optics For Small Part Counting

Array and slot fibers are customizable for a simple setup and provide an optimal solution for small part counting applications.

High Flexibility Fiber Optics
High Flexibility Fiber Optics

Ideal for machines with reciprocating motions and when fibers need to be repeatedly bent. Best use on moving machines, such as robotic arms.

Stainless Steel Sheathed Fiber Optics
Stainless Steel Sheathed Fiber Optics

Rugged Stainless Steel Sheathed fiber optics models resist kinking, cutting and snagging and have a low profile to easily embed in machines.

Focused & Extended Range Fiber Optics
Focused & Extended Range Fiber Optics

Lensed fiber models provide increased performance & reliability. Ideal for long range applications or focused beam for small features or objects.

High Temperature Fiber Optics
High Temperature Fiber Optics

High temp fiber optics are used where the temperature is too hot for plastic fibers. Popular use in thermal process applications.

Specialty Fiber Optics
Specialty Fiber Optics

Fibers for liquid level detection, Ferrule, Probe, and side view sensing end tips, as well as custom fibers for specific applications.

Tight Bend Radius Fiber Optics
Tight Bend Radius Fiber Optics

Improved flexibility for limited space setups, difficult-to-access locations

Step 2: Choose a Fiber Optic Amplifier

The amplifier emits, receives, and converts the light energy into an electrical signal. Since the fiber amplifier is a separate unit from the fibers, it can be mounted and powered remotely.
