Challenge
In a distribution center, packages and other products moving down a line are distributed into containers by an automated sorting system. Without real-time bin-fill measurement, however, workers won’t know when to most efficiently retrieve bulk containers. Packages landing in overfilled bins may fall off and land in unexpected places, leading to lost or misplaced goods. Workers retrieving underfilled bins is inefficient.
Solution
A Q20-2 Laser Measurement Sensor mounted above each container detects changing fill height using an infrared laser. This sensor is ideal for detecting packages, sensing varying types of surfaces regardless of color, even those that are shiny, dark, or clear. Monitoring a single point to determine bin fill height in a container, it delivers high performance at a lower cost than 3D time-of-flight options.
