This software allows users to easily customize their own indicators with a wide variety of color and animation options in the field without requiring IO-Link.
The S22 family of flush-mount indicators, touch buttons, and pick-to-light devices brings clear visual communication and interactive feedback into a compact, 22-millimeter flush-mount form factor that integrate neatly into panels, machines, and workstations.
Standard indicators provide reliable visual status indication with one, two, or three fixed colors, offering immediate deployment straight from the box. Programmable models use configurable colors and animations to clearly convey machine status, guide operators, or confirm process steps. This feedback can be precisely tailored to each application using Banner’s free Pro Editor software, Modbus®, or via an IO-Link® master. S22 pick-to-light devices use either Banner’s PICK-IQ® or easily configurable pick logic to support lean manufacturing processes.
With multiple connector options and rugged housings, the S22 family delivers reliable performance and a clean, professional appearance across a wide range of industrial applications.
S22 Indicators, Touch Buttons, and Pick-to-Light Devices
S22 indicators provide bright, intuitive visual status indication in a compact, flush-mount design. Standard models offer one-, two-, or three-color indication for simple, dependable signaling of machine states and operating conditions. Programmable indicator models expand signaling flexibility by enabling custom color combinations, animation patterns, speeds, and intensities. The result is clearer communication, faster operator response, and a cleaner panel layout.
Designed for reliability in demanding environments, S22 devices are available in fully sealed polycarbonate or FDA-grade plastic housings that are rated IP67/IP69K for protection against dust, liquid immersion, and high-pressure washdown.
S22 Programmable Touch Buttons combine dynamic visual indication with ergonomic, pressure-free operation. Capacitive touch technology enables reliable actuation with bare or gloved hands, eliminating physical force and reducing hand, wrist, and arm strain. Configurable colors and animations provide immediate visual feedback, confirming actions or guiding next steps. Two-way communication between operator and equipment improves accuracy, speed, and confidence during operation.
Touch buttons use a solid-state design that eliminates wear points associated with traditional mechanical devices, reducing maintenance and delivering long operational life.
S22 pick-to-light devices build on the programmable touch button platform to support pick-to-light applications, including guided assembly, order fulfillment, and kitting applications. Bright visual cues and responsive touch acknowledgment help operators quickly identify correct locations and confirm completed actions. This guided workflow reduces picking errors, improves throughput, and enhances overall process consistency. The result is higher productivity, improved quality, and reduced rework or scrap.
To achieve this efficiency, S22 pick-to-light models with Modbus are powered by Banner’s PICK-IQ®, a Modbus RTU communication protocol which reduces latency and delivers performance required by large pick-to-light systems. Other S22 pick-to-light models rely on programmable pick logic, which is easily configured via Banner’s free Pro Editor software.
S22 Programmable models provide expanded color selection to communicate status with greater clarity and relevance. Multiple predefined colors, along with custom color options, allow visual feedback to be aligned with machine states, process steps, or safety conditions. When used consistently across a system, color becomes a powerful visual language that helps operators interpret information quickly and accurately.
Configurable LED animations add another layer of meaning beyond static color indication. Flashing, sweeping, and alternating patterns draw attention to critical conditions, indicate transitions, or confirm completed actions. By combining color and motion, S22 devices communicate priority and intent more effectively, reducing confusion and helping operators respond faster.
Adjustable intensity ensures clear visibility in a wide range of environments, from brightly lit factory floors to enclosed panels or work cells. Light output can be tuned to remain visible without being distracting, improving usability and comfort. This flexibility allows the same device to perform effectively across different machines, locations, and ambient lighting conditions.
FDA models are constructed with compliant materials and are designed to withstand frequent high-pressure washdowns without false triggering. A fully sealed housing rated IP67 and IP69K resists ingress from spray, foam, and oils, ensuring reliable signaling and interaction through repeated cleaning cycles. Available as indicators, touch buttons, or pick-to-light models, these support clear communication and consistent performance in demanding, hygienic production applications.
Using IO-Link or Modbus communication enables centralized configuration, real-time control, and access to diagnostic data from the control system. Visual behavior can be dynamically adjusted based on machine states or operator input, while touch events provide feedback directly to the system. The result is smarter interaction, faster troubleshooting, and tighter integration with modern automation architectures.
PICK-IQ communication enables greater speed and accuracy in medium- and large-scale pick-to-light systems by adding built-in intelligence to picking and order fulfillment applications. Built on Modbus RTU but optimized for faster, more efficient communication over an RS-485 serial network, PICK-IQ simplifies integration through automatic addressing and standardized messaging, reducing setup time and system changes. S22 pick-to-light devices support configurable colors, intensities, and animations, with built-in logic for pick, confirm, error, and replenishment states that improve operator efficiency while minimizing controller programming. The result is a scalable, daisy-chainable system with low-latency communication that adapts easily as layouts and requirements change.
Discrete I/O models use hardwired inputs and touch to control indicator behavior and outputs, with logic configured locally using Banner's free Pro Editor software.
Three pick-to-light logic functions are available (depending on model), each defining how the device changes state in response to an input signal and a touch
| Input | Touch | Output | C Funtion | D Function | E Function | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| State 1 | Input Off | Touch None | Output None | C Funtion ![]() Off |
D Function ![]() Off |
E Function ![]() Off |
| State 2 | Input On | Touch None | Output None | C Funtion ![]() On: Color 1 |
D Function ![]() On: Color 1 |
E Function ![]() On: Color 1 |
| State 3 | Input Off | Touch Yes | Output Yes | C Funtion ![]() On: Color 2 |
D Function ![]() Off |
E Function ![]() On: Color 2 |
| State 4 | Input On | Touch Yes | Output Yes | C Funtion ![]() On: Color 2 |
D Function ![]() On: Color 1 |
E Function ![]() On: Color 1 |
Two-color operation: the device turns on to Color 1 when the input signal is active, then confirms the pick by changing to Color 2 when touched.
Single-color operation: the device turns on to Color 1 when the input signal is active, then advances the pick sequence by turning on the output when touched (light remains Color 1).
Two-color operation: the device turns on to Color 1 when the input signal is active; when touched, it advances the pick sequence by turning on the output (input active) or provides touch indication by changing to Color 2 (input inactive).
