Detecting Parking Spot Availability

Drivers entering multi-level parking structures often struggle to find a place to park. To improve efficiency, a method is needed to inform them of real-time parking availability and guide them to the appropriate open spaces.

Placing a K50R Pro short-range radar sensor above the height of an average vehicle, for each parking space in a ramp or garage, provides an accurate method for counting the number of occupied or available parking spaces. Presenting that data to incoming drivers on signs with digital readouts makes it easier to find available parking and saves them valuable time. K50R sensors are an excellent choice for use in ramps that are exposed to outdoor air and varying temperatures, because they use radar for accurate detection in any weather condition.

K50R Pro sensors can provide an additional benefit: they feature RGB LEDs, which can be set to illuminate red or green depending on the availability (or lack of availability) of a given space. Drivers encountering a row of parked cars can easily see these colored lights from a distance and then navigate to an open parking space.

Even when used to monitor every available parking spot individually, radar sensors provide a cost-competitive alternative to other parking-spot-sensing systems.
