    Bei einer Reihe von Fertigungsprozessen in der Automobilindustrie werden Drehtische eingesetzt, um Teile in verschiedene automatische und manuelle Arbeitsstationen einzuteilen. In vielen Fällen müssen Sensoren verwendet werden, um zu bestätigen, dass Teile vorhanden, richtig platziert oder vor der Einteilung korrekt bearbeitet sind. Historisch hat sich die Lösung, Schleifringe einzusetzen, um die Stromversorgung der Sensoren und die Signalleitungen an das Steuerungssystem anzuschließen, häufig als teuer und unzuverlässig erwiesen. Eine alternative Lösung, mit der mehr Sensorsignale verarbeitet werden können während die Zuverlässigkeit erhöht wird, ist erforderlich.
